Anyone with a desire to paint outside may join us each Saturday morning.

To get started, show up at the designated meeting point. If you see someone wearing a black hat with the PAPC logo on it, introduce yourself. There is no formal check in. Choose a location in the vicinity of our meeting point to paint, then go for it. Be mindful to clean up after yourself and dispose of your chemicals and paints responsibly (take them home). Meet back at the designated meeting point at Noon-ish for critique.

Meet Martha, Location Manager

The location manager for the weekly PAPC paintouts selects sites and posts location information every week on our website. Since May 2011, our location manager, Martha Stevens, has been sending us to scenic Chicago spots to capture that elusive plein air light. Martha started painting with the PAPC group in 2008. She feels that the weekly outdoor painting challenge offers a great way to improve your painting technique. If you have a location that would make a great painting, Martha wants to hear about it. Email: locale411@gmail.com. Or let her know at one of our outings.

Paint out: Sat, June 21st, Andersonville / Edgewater Historical Society area, 9am -- Noon

Summer begins on Sat. Also with the Kennedy bridge construction continuing, it is a good time to start our painting in Andersonville for the shows coming up. Meet at the Starbucks at 5300 N. Clark Street starting around nine. Group painting discussion at 12 Noonish.

Here's a link to EHS Edgewater Historical Society with historic photos of Edgewater area: http://www.edgewaterhistory.org/ehs/

If you have an interesting painting spot in Edgewater that our group should paint at, email it to locale411@gmail.com.
Have fun painting. ~ Martha

PS please view our Group Facebook page for more info about Plein Air Painters of Chicago.

Paintout: Sat. May 31, Bridges at W. Cermak Rd & S. Canal St, 9 to Noon.

This is a favorite with our group because of the views of several bridges to paint.

The Canal St. bridge, the Cermak Bridge, and the Ping Tom Park RR bridge in the distance, all make interesting compositions. Several boatyards in the area add to the challenge. Meet near the Lawrence's Fish place at 2120 South Canal Street.

Plenty of free parking in the area, plus good CTA connections via Chinatown Red Line stop and the Cermak bus.

Send in your scenic location suggestions to: locale411@gmail.com. Happy painting! ~ Martha

Important message to PAPC painters

Hello to all PAPC painters -
The Chicago plein air season is in full swing and, in addition to our regular painters, there have been many new painters coming to our weekly Saturday PAPC paint outs. The PAPC is entering our 11th year since Scott Powers created the group in 2003. There are big plans in the near future to ensure the continuation of our group for many years to come.
Our Annual PAPC Exhibit at the Palette Chisel is scheduled for August 14-26. Also, the Andersonville Arts Weekend is scheduled for October 10-12 where we have exhibited at the Edgewater Historical Society for the past six years. Both exhibits have always been successful with great paintings, good participation by our painters and good turn out by viewers and buyers. Start painting now on Saturday mornings with the PAPC so your artwork will ready for these exhibits.
To maintain Scott's original intent when founding the PAPC, to be a group of painters that paint and learn together outdoors, there will be a requirement that a percentage of paintings exhibited in the PAPC shows be painted during the PAPC group paint outs on Saturdays. This requirement will help build camaraderie among the painters and increase the number of painters coming out each Saturday.
The requirement for exhibiting is that 50% of your paintings exhibited at the PAPC shows must be painted with the group. All paintings must be Chicago area scenes and, as always for the Edgewater exhibit, you are encouraged to paint in Edgewater.
We are also working on a way to create membership for PAPC participants. The purpose of membership is to offer added benefits, improve communication and maintain continuation of the PAPC. Watch for upcoming announcements.
This announcement is intended to give everyone enough time to paint with the PAPC and have paintings for the exhibits. Hope to see you soon!
